Basically, the most effective natural deodorant ever made (just ask our moms!)
routine’s effectiveness and commitment to maintain a deep connection to local community has resulted in a word of mouth, sought after destination product with a loyal fan following. Ethically crafted with the health of the planet and its roommates as priority, routine was created by sisters Neige and Pippa at the base of the Rocky Mountains in beautiful Calgary, Canada.
routine. is and will always be manufactured in Canada.
We’ve got you covered with a deodorant for every body type and scent preference- 13 scents and 5 formulas including vegan, sensitive skin (baking soda free), and activated charcoal.
routine.contains only clean, wholesome ingredients. No nasty aluminum zirconium, aluminum chlorohydrate, parabens, triclosan, or propylene glycol because we love all the people and why would we put that in anyone’s products!?
routine is applied with your clean fingers (or a tiny, clean spoon if you’d prefer). This alternative application method eliminates the possibility for the bacteria from your armpits to contaminate the product (as opposed to the conventional stick method) in turn, making it effective to the very bottom of the jar. Hooray!
So, we say love up your armpits! It’s okay to touch them- they’re a part of you and you’re beautiful! Your armpits don’t want to be a source of shame anymore! They want to be included and sit at the cool table and be a part of your club!
We do! At 139 locations and counting! The following stores are now offering refills. Make sure you bring a CLEAN glass jar!

Is Routine's packaging recyclable? Yes - and no. We are improving the no (through a partnership with TerraCycle).
Different municipalities/provinces/states have different recycling capabilities - some will recycle all glass, some will only recycle food-grade glass etc. As we don't want our packaging to end up in landfills, we have decided to collect our own packaging using TerraCycle zero waste boxes. TerraCycle separates the collected packaging and recycles it into raw materials that are sold back to manufacturers, creating a closed loop.
Our Recycling Program started in February 2021 and as of today's date you can bring ANY Routine packaging to the below locations for recycling. This list will grow (fast, we hope!) and will be updated weekly. Recycling locations can also be seen on our map here: https://routinecream.com/pages/find-a-store - just select the category “Recycling Locations”
Have a store and are interested in setting up a Routine TerraCycle box at your location? Let us know - email email@example.com.
Are you collecting all packaging materials - sticks, jars, lids, face oil bottles, pumps and boxes?
Yes, and also all future Routine product packaging (there is much more in the making!) All materials get separated and sorted at TerraCycle; plastics is separated from metal, cardboard from coating etc.
Are you collecting other brands’ packaging as well?
Not at this point. That being said, we would love to collaborate to make this program even better! So if you are a store owner or a customer you can ask the other potential brands to reach out to us if they are interested in joining us on this mission - firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wouldn’t it be better if people just reused/refilled your packaging?
We have a very popular refill program, check out our store locator with over 125 locations! We think an increasing amount of people will choose this option as we grow our refill program and make this option available in more locations, and for more of our products. It is exciting to see how new refill stores are popping up every day, but they are not in every street corner (yet).
What will happen to the materials when they are sent back to TerraCycle?
METALS are separated by specific type and smelted into ingots for re-use.
PLASTICS are separated by number and melted down. From there, most of TerraCycle’s plastics are turned into small pellets that can be molded and extruded into unique shapes and products.
PAPER fibers are hydropulped to separate out coatings (like wax and plastics). The separated fiber is recycled into new paper products, or composted if recycling is not possible. The resulting plastics will be recycled into plastic polymers.
GLASS is cleaned and sorted by color for processing. It is then crushed and melted to be used in new glass products or other applications.
End products may include outdoor furniture and decking, plastic shipping pallets, watering cans, storage containers and bins, tubes for construction applications, flooring tiles, playground surface covers and athletic fields, and much more.

All routine ingredients are as clean as it gets. If we wouldn't put it on our kids, you won't find it in routine!

The reason we don’t make an unscented baking soda free deodorant, is because the b.s. free formula needs the support of antibacterial essential oils to make an effective baking soda free deodorant. We have tested unscented baking soda free deodorant, and it just doesn’t make the cut for our effective routine lineup. We will however, continue to experimenting with more natural ingredients to create the ultimate baking soda free unscented deodorant!
Routine’s new baking soda free natural deodorant line up is here!
Of course, we have to give our good pal baking soda credit. It is an amazing natural product, deodorizer and the star of our original well-loved formulas (which will always be available).
The thing is, baking soda is alkaline and for some people, at certain times, it can throw off their pH balance, in turn causing skin sensitives. This is why, for our friends with sensitive skin, we have created four new deodorants (The Curator, and baking soda free: Sexy Sadie, Johnny’s Cash, Blackberry Betty) in which baking soda is replaced with dietary magnesium – a mineral that if you’re not getting enough of, can cause your sweat to smell worse!
As it happens, topically, magnesium works like a charm and makes our new formula just as effective as the original routine. Another benefit of magnesium: it aids in relaxing the armpits, which in turn, fends off those woeful stress sweats! SUPERSTAR is also for sensitive skin with only a touch of baking soda for added deodorizing- just enough to keep most sensitive skinned people from getting irritation. It contains activated charcoal to detoxify and neutralize pH, magnesium to reduce stress sweats, and prebiotics to keep your skin healthy.
Magnesium is a frontrunner in the health and wellness world and we’re excited to help you get your daily dose!
If you’ve purchased an original formula but think you might have extra sensitive armpits, email firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll send you a sample of The Curator or SUPERSTAR.
Blackberry Betty, Sweet Jane and Bonnie n Clyde (unscented) were formulated for pregnant and breastfeeding women, as they contain no essential oils. They are instead scented with natural and organic (and even edible!) flavour oils.
While we believe our other scents are safe as all ingredients are researched, properly diluted and not in a therapeutic dose range, we recommend pregnant and breastfeeding women contact their primary care provider before using any herb or essential oil.
Yes! Kids love routine and can choose whichever scent they gravitate towards.
The three scents that we would recommend for kids are Bonnie n Clyde (unscented) Sweet Jane and Blackberry Betty – flavoured with organic, natural and delicious (they are even edible!) flavour oils.
Our flavour oils come from Nature’s Flavors based out of California, their website has great information: www.naturesflavors.com. These oils are the same products organic candies are flavoured with. A full list of ingredients can be found on our online store when you click on each scent.
All our formulas contain kaolin clay - which naturally absorbs sweat. You will still sweat a little as the clay is not bioavailable so it absorbs sweat topically, not into your body, but we think this is healthy! After several weeks of regularly using natural deodorant, people often find they begin to sweat less. All this being said, heavy sweaters seem to love our SUPERSTAR scent the most!
Sure do! Sexy Sadie, Lucy in the Sky and Johnny’s Cash are 100% vegan – all other scents contain beeswax. The beeswax we use is local and ethical from Nixon Honey in Innisfail, Alberta. We also donate a % of sales back to the bees! Every routine product is tested on friends, never animals
Yes! Baking soda, also called sodium bicarbonate, (we use Bob’s Red Mill) has never contained aluminum. It is baking powders that do sometimes contain aluminum, and thus labels should be read carefully when purchasing this product.
Some brands have started labelling baking soda as aluminum free, however it is more of a marketing strategy. This has misled many people into thinking baking soda contains aluminum which is simply not true.
